This program discusses common fire hazards found in transportation and warehouse environments. It reviews how fires start, how they are classified, and the proper methods for extinguishing them. The course emphasizes fire prevention strategies and details the critical safety procedures to follow during a fire emergency, both in a facility and in a commercial vehicle.

Course Overview:
  • Identify the three elements of the fire triangle (fuel, heat, and an oxidizer) and how removing one extinguishes a fire.
  • Differentiate between the five classes of fire (A, B, C, D, and K) and the appropriate extinguishing agent for each.
  • Learn the P.A.S.S. method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) for correctly using a portable fire extinguisher.
  • Review common fire hazards in a warehouse, including electrical issues, hot work, improper storage of flammables, and poor housekeeping.
  • Understand the specific fire risks associated with commercial vehicles, including pre-trip inspections and on-the-road checks.
  • Master building evacuation procedures, such as identifying primary and secondary routes, checking doors for heat, and staying low to avoid smoke.
By the end of the course you will have learned:
  • How to explain the components of the fire triangle and how fires are classified.
  • How to recognize and mitigate potential fire hazards related to electrical equipment, hot work, smoking, and chemical storage.
  • How to demonstrate the proper P.A.S.S. technique for operating a fire extinguisher.
  • How to describe the correct procedures for responding to a fire in a commercial vehicle, both for engine and cargo fires.
  • How to follow a facility’s emergency action plan to evacuate a building safely during a fire.
