This course provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the Hazard Communication Standard (HAZCOM) and the critical role of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the workplace. Participants will explore how the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) standardizes hazardous material information to ensure safety across all healthcare settings. The program breaks down the 16-section format of an SDS, teaching staff how to quickly locate vital information regarding chemical identification, emergency response, safe handling practices, and protective equipment to ensure the safety of themselves, their patients, and their coworkers.

  • HAZCOM and GHS Fundamentals: Understand the origin of the Hazard Communication Standard and how the Globally Harmonized System creates a universal language for chemical safety.
  • Immediate Crisis Information: Learn to navigate the first six sections of an SDS to identify materials and execute emergency procedures for exposure, fires, or spills.
  • Preventative Safety Measures: Identify proper storage requirements, handling precautions, and the specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed to prevent accidents.
