Excavators are among the most powerful and versatile machines on any construction site, but operating them safely requires a thorough understanding of their components, hazards, and proper procedures. This course covers everything from the basic anatomy of an excavator to pre-shift inspections, safe operation techniques, slope and stability rules, and the responsibilities of a ground spotter — giving operators and workers the knowledge they need to prevent serious injuries and fatalities on the job.

  • Overview of excavator components, including the cab, bucket, boom, tracks, and protective systems such as ROPS and FOPS, and how each part functions during operation
  • Differences between excavator types — standard, dragline, mini, long-reach, and wheeled — and how to select the right type for your project

  • Common causes of tip-over accidents, including overloading, poor ground conditions, and operating on steep slopes, along with the 70% rule for safe slope operation
